Hayle Runners took a trip to the Trevornick holiday camp near Newquay to take part in the fourth event in the Cornwall Glass and Glazing Grand Prix for 2016.

Coming just two weeks after many of their members gave their all in Marathons across the UK the tough undulating course of sand dunes and trails is well known to take its toll on tired legs and this resulted in a smaller turnout from Hayle Runners and a number of other running clubs at the event.

Despite the tough course the ever consistent Jordan Morant was the first of the thirty four starters from Hayle Runners to finish in fourth place overall and taking second place in his under 35 category.

He helped the Hayle men’s team into 3rd place in the team competition supported by Scott Abraham,,Kieran Murrant,Simon Knowles, a team debut from Thomas Rosenfeld and another fine run from Lewis Hill. Amy Jose matched Jordan by taking a well deserved second place in her under 35 age group and leading the women’s team home. She was supported by a strong run from Kelly Moore, a team debut from Corinne Gerrard, solid performances from off road specialists Andrea Spencer- Smith and Louise Ollivier, and a fine run from Rachel Pegg who also made the women’s team for the first time. Fran Long and Diane Warren gained second place in their 55-59 and 60-64 years age categories respectively and Debbie Carveth who in her first full year of club running had a great run to gain a personal best for 10 miles improving on her time from the recent Stormforce and An Resek races on a much tougher course.

Rachel Bowker Hayle Women’s captain said: "It was good to see new faces getting an opportunity to feature in the women’s team at Trevornick.Corinne and Rachel Pegg had great runs and Debbie Carveth’s personal best on such a tough course was a tremendous achievement."
