Camborne Rugby Club reflected on a season of unprecedented success at their annual Presentation Evening held in the ‘Town Bar’ at Crane Park.

In his opening address chairman Alan Truscott was full of praise for the coaching duo of Liam Chapple and Phil Angove.

He spoke of the dark days of the previous summer when for various reasons the club lost over 20 of their senior squad. Aln Truscott said: "For most clubs this would have been a blow from which they could not recover, but not for Camborne.’’

Thanks to the efforts of Chapple and Angove, with some astute recruitment including the major signing during pre season of Sam Matavesi the team started to take shape.

Several of the Cherry and Whites' successful Colts squad stepped up to senior rugby and talented, ambitious young players such as Jack Simmons, Rhys Brownfield, Ben Stean, Noah Sixton and Tommy Lee-Southworth joined the ranks.

Though the talismanic Matavesi eventually moved on his performances sparked the team’s challenge and ‘Town’ were top of South West One table at Christmas having suffered only three defeats.

The acquisitions of experienced players like John Drew, the prolific Alex Ducker and Damien Cook midway through the campaign then proved significant and really boosted the team’s push for honours.

In fact from that point at the turn of the year the squad went unbeaten in 2016 with 15 straight league and cup wins to comfortably secure a return to the National Divisions and a record fourth successive Cornwall Cup.

Truscott added: "The achievement of the club’s second team squad was also quite remarkable, in winning the inaugural Duchy League title against stiff opposition from Launceston and Redruth."

The proud chairman paid particular tribute to their hardworking team manager Martyn Trestrail.

The awards were handed out as follows:
