AFTER many years’ loyal service, Jason Renfree stood down as Mawnan AFC’s 2nd XI manager at the club’s annual general meeting held at the Ben Spike Centre in Carwinion Road.

Having joined the club in the 1984-85 season, over the following years Jason played, managed and became a committee member during which time he assumed an ever-increasing role in the club’s affairs.

Also standing down as Jason’s assistant is his brother, Gregg, who was the most successful Ist XI manager in the club’s history. However, both will retain their links with the club.

Stepping in to take over management of the 2nd XI will be well-known former senior footballer Lee Harris who has previously played for the club. For the past two decades Lee has cut his teeth on fostering youth football and he will have Ben Roberts, as his assistant, another former Mawnan player. They will be looking to build on Jason’s foundations.

Mark Trewin will continue his managerial role with the Ist XI, but he has drafted in the experienced Ian Grant to help him as joint manager following Stuart Keenan’s decision to take a break from management.

Players wishing to join the club can contact the following: Harris, 0771 3030001; Trewin, 0797 3831995; Grant, 07535 585582.

Secretary Andrew Prynn reflected on a difficult campaign badly affected by the weather and injuries with the club having to cram two thirds of the season’s fixtures into the final two months of the season. He also outlined plans put in place for installing replacement training floodlights and new goalposts.

Treasurer Barry Christophers, in his report, said the club was comfortably placed although the planned ground improvements would prove a considerable expenditure.

Chairman Colin Bate thanked all those who had contributed to the running of the club over the season including those who worked behind the scenes carrying out the various tasks that are required to keep the club ticking over in such an efficient manner. He also expressed his gratitude to main kit sponsors James Miller Financial Planning.

Officers elected were: president, D Rickard; chairman, C Bate; vice-chairman, A Tonkin; secretary, A Prynn; treasurer, B Christophers; Ist XI managers, M Trewin and I Grant; 2nd XI manager, L Harris; 2nd XI assistant manager, B Roberts.
