GLORIOUS weather on greeted the annual West Cornwall Police Society Captain’s Day event, hosted by new captain George Curnow last Thursday.
An excellent entry of 40 participants took to the field, and it was a pleasure to welcome so many members and guests to the course. The course was in excellent condition, followed by a carvery and presentation in the clubhouse.
The primary competition was the pairs better-ball stableford – which resulted in two pairs recording 49 points.
On count-back the winners were Ian Munday and his guest, Paul Broomfield, who received the perpetual trophy and £35 each in vouchers.
Runners-up were Adam Partridge and his guest, Steve Parr who received £20 each. There were two separate individual competitions – one for members and one for the guests.
Members: 1, Chris Stark 42pts; 2, Major Tinder 38pts; 3, David Still 36pts. Guests: 1, Graham Jacka 41pts; 2, Jim Bennett 38pts; 3, Bill Mitcham 32pts.
The following were winners in the on-course challenges, and each received a bottle of wine.
Longest drive on 3: Steve Parr; Nearest in 2 on 8: John Soulby (3.51m); Nearest the pin on 11: Jim Bennett (2.6m); Nearest in 3 on 18: John Soulby (2ins).
George Curnow donated a bottle of Glenfiddich whisky for a charitable putting competition prior to dinner – which left in the grateful hands of Chris Pashley. The real winners however were Shelterbox, as £60 was raised for the charity.
