Holsworthy 0, Porthleven 3

THREE goals in ten second half minutes gave new Porthleven boss Kev Richards the dream start to his side’s SWPL Division 1 West campaign on Saturday.

The Fishermen have recruited well over the summer and two new faces – Heydon Dark (pictured) and Matt Fox – marked their debuts with goals.

The first half was a cagey affair, with few chances for either side. The best chance fell to the hosts following a corner, but a home player completely missed his kick with the goal at his mercy six yards out.

Ethan Fearn, another new signing, was a virtual spectator in the Port goal in the opening 45 minutes

The Fishermen took control five minutes into the second period when a fine pass from Jowan Shainberg found Dark and as he broke into the penalty area he shot home.

Five minutes later they doubled their advantage when a crossfield pass from Shainberg found Jack Webber. He volleyed goalwards but was denied by great save from the home keeper. He could only parry it into the path of Fraser Patterson, who was on hand to tuck it away.

Fox completed the scoring on the hour mark with a splendid 25 yard strike which rocketed into the top corner.

Holsworthy threw men forward in search of a consolation but 16 year old Joel Allen and 18 year old Callum Grahmslaw were outstanding at the heart of Port’s defence, ensuring a clean sheet to accompany the three points.
