Shooters from all over Cornwall journeyed up to Surrey for the Bisley National Small-bore Rifle meeting.

The weather was very hot and sunny at the beginning of the week but got wetter at the end with the wind varying from absolutely still to gale force.

All shooters had problems with mirage and wind making for challenging conditions.

J Hibbitt 25TH, M Hammond 25th, J Emmerson 27th

B Class (58 shooters)

T Kurn 31st

C Class (59 shooters)

The Cornish teams in the team competitions did not fare so well because of the small pool of Cornish competitors to select teams from but those competing put up a good effort finishing 14th out of 21 in the County 50 metres, 14th out of 23 in the County Sextette and 7th out of 7 in the ladies (but unlike some counties we at least managed to put up a team).

The Bob’s competition was shot in gale force winds which caused a lot of problems with targets tearing and coming off of the target holders to such an extent that a backer was put immediately behind the target and two backers were used instead of the normal one to strengthen them with many more clips than usually used to hold them on.

Despite this the shooters put up some very good scores with this prestigious competition finally being won by David Couch of Bodmin Rifle Club. A superb effort was needed to score so well in such poor conditions.

We believe that this is the first time a shooter has ever retained the trophy for two years running and it also means that Cornwall shooters have won the Bob’s competition four times in the last five years, what a record!

In the Champion of Champions competition, Holmans Rifle Club's John Emmerson made a great effort finishing a respectable 18th out of 31County Champions.

At the awards ceremony Parker was awarded the Scottish Anglo Trophy for his combined aggregate at the Bisley meeting and the Scottish meeting.

All our shooters put up a fantastic effort and deserve our congratulations particularly those who went up a class, the trophy winners and those who represented Cornwall in the county competitions including our Cornish Champion.
