HELSTON Athletic will write another piece of history on Saturday when they travel to Portishead Town for their first ever FA Vase match.

Having established themselves in SWPL Premier last season, their application to enter the national competition was accepted and their big moment arrives with a trip to the Western League Division 1 outfit, based just outside Bristol.

Blues boss Sid Taylor has a few selection headaches ahead of the match, with Gemell Mills struggling with an ankle injury, while Mattie Buchan and Luke Tripconey are both suspended.

Nathan Taylor also picked up a knock in Friday night's League Cup win at St Blazey, but is expected to be fit for Saturday.

Sid said: "It'll be a great occasion for the club, it's something to look forward to. When you enter the Vase you want to play different teams that you haven't met before, so we'll leave Helston at around 9.30am and make a weekend of it with a night out in Bristol afterwards."

Portishead are a Step 6 club - the same level as Helston - and have won five of their opening eight league matches this season. They won 2-1 at Liskeard in the first qualifying round of the Vase, but went down 2-0 at home to Westbury Utd in the league on Saturday.

Helston's squad has been stretched in recent weeks with the long term injury to Jason Roberts following several summer departures. Keegan McPhilbin will also be unavailable soon when he joins the Navy.

"I'm definitely looking to strengthen to add some depth to our defence and midfield," he added.
