Falmouth were disappointed to suffer their first loss of the season playing away to the White Eagles of Tiverton, going down 3-1 in Devon on Saturday.

Falmouth were clearly the stronger side but struggled to capitalise on their chances. Steady defending from Megan Cookson, Hanna Brixton and Molly Phillips kept the home team quiet for most of the first half but a lucky break, which resulted in a 2 on 1 against Falmouth ‘keeper Amie Caldwell, saw Tiverton go ahead.

Shortly before half time Falmouth looked to equalise when a powerful cross from Vic Pryor was deflected into the air by a Tiverton stick.

A controversial umpire decision saw midfielder Tatum Godwin green carded and sent off the pitch when she used her hand to prevent the ball smashing into her face.

After the break Falmouth’s midfield of Amy Looker, Captain Clare Hudson and Emily James continued to battle hard but were frustrated by repeated umpire decisions not going Falmouth’s way.

The visitors' equaliser and their only goal of the game came from midfielder Amy Figgins releasing a perfectly paced ball for wing back Rachel Medd to cross into the Tiverton goal mouth.

Player of the match Emma Bragg was the first to react slamming the ball into the Tiverton goal. A further controversial umpire decision saw Falmouth’s, Medd, green carded for a minor infringement. With the visitors down to 10 players Tiverton took full advantage scoring two goals to win the game.

Falmouth had a string of penalty corners, finally managing to convert one when Alice Bowman flicked the ball into the top corner after the ball rebounded from the ‘keeper. Falmouth put in a good team performance and were worthy winners. Player of the Match, Hannah Whear played a controlling role in mid-field as Falmouth had a high level of possession throughout the game. Good attacking opportunities were produced as both Alice Bowman and Karen Ellis made good runs down the right wing.
