IF you fancy a new challenge at the start of 2017, why not give remote control car racing a go?

KORT - the Kernow Off Road Track - plays host to all types of RC off-road cars, buggies and trucks and is looking for new members.

Based at Higher Carnebone Farm, at Laity, near Helston, the all-weather track is open every weekend throughout the year.

Keith Bright, from the club, said: "It's very fast and furious - a good, interesting sport for all ages. It bites and grabs hold of you and keeps you coming back for more."

Some of the 3.5cc vehicles can reach speeds of 40mph around the undulating astro-turf track, with jumps and banked corners adding to the excitement.

There is also a mini track for the smaller scale cars and new drivers to have a play on the grass and dirt surface.

New members are always welcome and this year the club has become a member of the British Radio Car Association (BRCA). Anyone new to the track can use it three times, after which they will need to become a BRCA member for £20 a year.

"We would encourage everyone to come down and have a look. With supervision we can arrange for new faces to have a drive. We pride ourselves on the quality of the track and we are one of the only clubs to have an undercover pitted area in the country," said Keith.

He added: "KORT is run to give you a safe and fun place to enjoy your hobby. Help and advice is always on hand as well as the trackside support and even a repair service."

There is a large free parking field, onsite toilets and catering. The drivers have a covered rostrum, giving a good view of the whole track, and well protected marshal stations.
