Team GB triathlete Mark Lewarne, who is also a cover teacher at Penryn College, has been delivering a number of Saturday triathlon training sessions to year 7 pupils at the college.

Lewarne, who has represented Team GB at five world championships across the globe and was captain for the 2012 European championships in Israel.

He used his skills and knowledge to coach the youngsters' aspects of the cycling and running sections of triathlon. This included pacing, transitions, indoor threshold training and mental focus ahead of competition.

Lewarne added: "It's been an absolute delight to teach these young athletes who were all so determined and focussed for the sessions, I look forward to working with them this year and building up to a series of competition events over the summer months. Their drive and effort was up there with the best I've have seen from any set of athletes."

"The plan is now involve more students from the local school into triathlon. The programme will now be delivered across the school years with even the primary schools becoming involved, it's exciting times for the sport."

Lewarne is looking ahead to his own 2017 season, with the European Championships in Slovakia the target.

He added: "I will do the usual build up with training ahead of the season, it would be great to be back amongst the medals or even challenging for a top position at Europeans. It's important to keep consistent leading up to is event with regards to my training."
