To start the New Year, Hayle Runners again sent a strong contingent to Tromso in Norway for the Polar Nights Half Marathon.

A unique race run in the midst of the polar night which lasts for almost two months during which the sun never appears over the horizon.

Race conditions were ideal with snow arriving to order about 30 minutes before the start. The half marathon attracts a field of 800, with the majority of these now travelling from across the world to take part: twelve of which were from Hayle Runners.

Despite the strong international field, Emma Paull ran a powerful race and came in as third lady overall and second in her age category.

Maria Williams also had a fantastic race, coming 2nd in the 55-65 age category.

Despite challenging conditions during some parts of the race, everyone made it round and collected their well earned Northern Lights themed medals as they crossed the finish line.

Full results were: Emma Paull 1.30.47; Nick Masters 1.39.56; Steve Lee 1.51.04; Maria Williams 1.57.41; Becky Lee 2.04.44; Kelly Martin 2.09.32; Deborah Lewis 2.17.53; Lee Billington 2.19.54; Mel Billington 2.22.15; Carol Rouncefield 2.27.41; Mickee Jelf 2.27.48; Naomi Connon 2.28.36.
