Penryn 80, Tamar Saracens 0

PERHAPS Penryn's frustrating season resulted in this mauling of the Cornwall/Devon League's basement side at the Memorial Ground on Saturday.

The Borough have had desperate problems with injuries in recent months, but they were in no mood for excuses as they destroyed their Devon opponents with a 12-try annihilation.

Coach Chris Lea said: "There was a real buzz about the place on Saturday, and there's no doubt that training will feel a little easier this week. Chairman Alan Mitchell was pleased with the style and enthusiasm in the team yesterday."

He added: "January is a busy month - we have Tavistock away then Falmouth at home."

Lock Grant Randlesome picked up the man of the match award for a hat-trick of tries against Tamar, while wing Colin Campbell also helped himself to three touchdowns.

James Salisbury and Andrew Seviour weighed in with two apiece, with full back Mike Creeden and Number 8 Jordan Rose completing an all-conquering performance by the hosts.

Matt Horton also had his kicking boots on, as he landed ten of the 12 conversion attempts to set the seal on a crushing victory.

It was Penryn's ninth and most emphatic win of the season and keeps them in fifth place. The only team in the top six to lose on Saturday were Saltash, who went down 17-12 at Pirates Amateurs.
