PENRYN's head of rugby is aiming to bring in a new coach in readiness for next season, writes Matt Dixon.

Dave Levick has been installed at the club to try and turn around the club's flagging fortunes.

"There's been a bit of a lull at the club and we want to bring back the enthusiasm by bringing in some different coaches. Graham Dawe has done a great job but he cannot be there for matches on Saturdays, so that is something that we need to look at for next season," said Levick, who played for the club for many years, as well as representing Cornwall, London Irish and the Cornish Pirates.

Restoring the first team to a higher standard of rugby is not his only brief, however. He also wants to reform the second team and continue the development of the Colts team, which is currently operating as a joint venture with Falmouth Rugby Club.

"There is a high number of drop-outs at Colts level and the main thing is to ensure that they carry on playing rugby after that age group, be that for Penryn or Falmouth.

"Obviously there is rivalry between the two clubs but there is no pressure from any of the coaches as to which senior team they should play for - it is a matter of keeping them in rugby," said Levick.

In a recent match between Penryn seconds and Falmouth, four Colts played for Borough, guided by experienced players who have returned to the fold.
