Carn Brea & Helston Swimming Club followed up on their successes at the Cornwall Championships this weekend by hosting Cornwall’s only Fastest Five Skins event in recent years.

The event, held at Penzance Leisure Centre, brought together first time gala swimming alongside more experienced teammates for an inspirational and competitive event. Swimmers came from as far a field as Frome, Hatfield & Honiton Swimming Clubs, as well as clubs from across Cornwall.

The Skins event is hotly contested and invites the six fastest Individual Medley age group swimmers of the day to compete in an exciting Knockout series of races.

The slowest swimmer in each heat is eliminated and pulls the stroke to be swum in the next heat from a hat. This continues until only two swimmers remain for a dramatic and exciting finale.

CBHSC didn’t shy away from this challenge and secured six places in the Skins event.

Lani Anthoney and Caja Rodda both made the Junior Skins final, with Caja racing off very strong competition to secure the junior girls' champion.

Jade Exell and Lauren Prouse made the Senior Girls Final with Lauren triumphantly gaining the third place position. Daniel Lyford and Ben Hallam secured their places in the senior boys final with Ben powering into third place.

Our younger competitors excelled too, making their first outing at a competitive gala.

It was a very rewarding and exciting day for them as they competed in all five races.

The nerves were soon left far behind as their confidence and team spirits began to soar.
