Penryn Athletic 1, Liskeard Athletic 1

RYAN Reeve’s second-half strike earned Penryn a share of the spoils with Liskeard, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Kernick on Saturday, writes Matt Friday.

Reeve’s close-range finish helped preserve Penryn’s formidable home record this season, with the side now unbeaten in their last 10 home league games.

Liskeard had the first chance in the 13th minute when James Lorenz played a one-two with Nathan Ewing, resulting in the former shooting narrowly wide.

Penryn’s best chances of the half came from Kyle Cooke, who first attempted an audacious volley, before later being denied by a good reflex save by Martin Piper.

Liskeard were on the back foot but grabbed the lead in the final seconds of the first half, when Nathan Ewing finished Lorenz’s low cross at the near post.

However it took only 13 second half minutes for Penryn to equalise, with Sean Johnson crossing to Ryan Reeve who fired past Piper from the edge of the six-yard box.

Penryn have won their two previous home games in 2017, and they were almost on their way to making it three out of three when Jay Davie’s shot struck the crossbar on 76 minutes.

With the crossbar still shaking, they again came close six minutes later when Reeve crossed the ball towards substitute Dave Broglino, who volleyed wide of Piper’s left post.

Despite all of their pressure, Penryn’s hearts were in mouths when Lorenz’s fierce shot rippled the net in the 89th minute, but his strike was powered into the side netting.

The hosts then twice came close to snatching all three points in the dying minutes, with Broglino having a shot saved before teeing up Reeve who headed wide.

Penryn: C Symons, D Blizzard, F Cross (W Harding 73), O Moody, B Oliver, S Johnson (H Roberts 85), L Brabyn, J Davie, R Martt, K Cooke (D Broglino 81), R Reeve.

Penryn’s next match is at home against Dobwalls in the SWPL Division One on Saturday.
