HELSTON Athletic boss Sid Taylor will be looking for a show of hands from his players as he shapes his squad for next season.

With just a handful of games left in their second season of SWPL Premier, he has been frustrated on occasion at the lack of availability of first team regulars.

"It has been a bit of a concern, which has then reflected in poor numbers at training. We need to identify which young players in the club are prepared to make the commitment each week," he said.

"Part of the challenge in the Premier is the travelling and hopefully we can establish which players are prepared for that. It may mean bringing new faces in who are willing to make the sacrifice."

The travel issue could scarcely be more pertinent, as the Blues brace themselves for four consecutive away matches in April.

It begins with a 240-mile round trip to Cullompton on Saturday, followed by trips to Tavistock, Falmouth and Plymouth Parkway.

Their season will end with a home game against Torpoint on Wednesday, April 26.

"It's unfortunate how the fixtures have panned out - it's very tough for players with young families to tell their partners that they're leaving at 11am and won't be back until 8pm," said Taylor.

Helston were without six regular first team players in their 2-1 home win over Godolphin on Saturday, demonstrating the strength in depth at the club.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to the reserve players who have stepped in. It was never going to be easy in our second season but we need to learn lessons from it in readiness for next season."

l Kellaway Park will host the Senior Cup final for the first time in its history on Easter Monday, April 17.

The match will be between Bodmin and Saltash after they beat Newquay and Falmouth Town respectively in last week's semi-finals.
