Falmouth 103, Bodmin 0 FALMOUTH celebrated in the sunshine with a ruthless display of running rugby at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

They won the Cornwall/Devon League in emphatic style, demonstrating why they have conquered all before them this season and now look forward to next term in Western Counties West.

Bodmin, who did well to fulfil the fixture as they were without so many first team regulars, held the hosts at bay for eight minutes before the onslaught began.

Dan Hubble put on the afterburners to race down the right flank after a fine pass from Tom Edmonds. Justyn Irons converted.

Scrum half Cameron Bullock crossed the line but dropped the ball under challenge and Falmouth did not double their lead until midway through the half through Owen Hambly.

The third try, also from Hambly, arrived after a brilliant passage of play in which the ball passed through several pairs of hands.

It was Hambly's fellow back rower Matt Brewer who crossed next and on 27 minutes Tom Job scored their fifth try. Irons missed the conversion for the first time to leave Falmouth 33-0 in front.

Good work by Dave Jones set up Hubble for his second and the procession was now in full swing.

Three more tries arrived in the final four minutes of the half.

Second row Jon Baglow did a fine impression of one of his backs, racing over from 20 metres out, before Jones and a 70-metre dash from Brewer, all of which were converted, put Falmouth out of sight at 57-0.

The scores kept coming within a minute of the restart.

Edmonds pinned back his ears and crossed unchallenged, before replacement Nick Carne ran clear after a sweet pass inside from Brewer.

Jones grabbed Falmouth's third try in the first seven minutes of the second period before Edmonds mischievously touched down wide out to give Irons a tough conversion - which he narrowly missed.

A fantastic score from Jones, breaking through several challenges on his way to an 80-metre try, ticked the scoreboard on to 90 points, before Carne's persistence earned him another touchdown.

Job brought up the 100 points with his second of the match, shortly after which referee Glynn Barnicoat brought a halt to proceedings with 15 minutes of the 40 still to play.

Bodmin could breathe again and Falmouth's celebrations could begin in earnest.
