JUST two weeks after conceding their SWPL Premier match at Cullompton, Helston Athletic produced another no-show at Plymouth Parkway on Saturday.

The club has been fined £250 and deducted 3 points.

They were also ordered to reimburse Plymouth Parkway any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred by them. The match officials were stopped from travelling so there were no expenses incurred by them.

A combination of injuries and player apathy resulted in an embarrassing April for the club.

Chairman Paul Hendy said: "We had players who were injured and prepared to travel, players who were injured but not able to travel and then some players who just couldn't be bothered.

"The issue has come to light over the last couple of months when results haven't been going our way and it is something we will have to address for next season. We will need to decide whether or not we want to sign on those players again."

The club's inability to raise a side was made more perplexing by the fact that their second team - the Combination League side - did not have a game on Saturday. Their third team did not play either, after Marazion Blues failed to raise a team for their Trelawny League Division 1 match.

Hendy explained: "Several of the second team squad had already made prior arrangements to spend time with their family because they did not have a fixture, while the third team game was unfortunately called off 45 minutes after we had told Plymouth Parkway that we wouldn't be travelling.

"By that stage it was too late to call Parkway back and tell them we had a squad, because players would have already made other arrangements."

It is a sad end to the reign of managers Sid Taylor and Richie Full, who bring the curtain down on seven years at the helm when they lead out the team against Torpoint Athletic at Kellaway Park this evening (7.45pm).

"We mustn't let recent events detract from what they have done for the club," said Paul.

"They've taken us from the Combination League to SWPL Premier, to a Senior Cup final and also our first ever appearance in the FA Vase. I hope people show their support and give them a good send-off in their final match in charge."

Hendy hopes to have appointed a new manager by the end of May. The club has been approached by an interested party but as yet, no decision on a successor has been made.

The Helston chairman could be forgiven for looking forward to a rest after a season of fluctuating fortunes at the club, but he remained typically stoical: "The summer season is often the busiest for administrators, so we'll be working hard to get everything ready for the new season on August 12."
