Penryn Athletic 4 Dobwalls 2

KYLE Cooke scored twice as Penryn warmed up for next week's Cornwall Charity Cup final with a 4-2 win in their final SWPL Division 1 West match of the season on Wednesday.

Ryan Martt and Ryan Reeve also got on the scoresheet as Penryn ended the season in the top five of the SWPL Division One West for the fourth successive year.

There were a number of solid performances which will give manager Paul Murray some important decisions to make as attention now turns to Wednesday’s cup clash with Sticker.

The home side edged a tight first 45 minutes, with Kyle Cooke calmly sliding the ball past goalkeeper Ryan Holland in the 7th minute for the only goal of the half.

But Penryn were 3-0 up before the hour, with Ryan Martt hammering a shot in from 12 yards before Cooke finished off an excellent team move for his second of the game.

The hosts started to relax after the third went in, and this allowed Dobwalls to get back into the game with substitute Ryan Oxley scoring in the 70th minute.

However Dobwalls’ night took another turn on 74 minutes, as manager Craig Holman was sent from the touchline after he took particular exception to one of the referee’s decisions.

This seemed to galvanise the visitors and they scored moments later. Chris Dingle sent Chris Symons the wrong way from the spot after Ben Oliver brought down Oxley in the area.

Dobwalls were in the ascendancy and Glyn James’ powerful 89th minute strike looked destined to complete an unlikely comeback, only for Symons to produce a vital save.

However the hosts ensured they ended the campaign with a win in injury time, when Cooke charged down Holland’s clearance before setting up Ryan Reeve who could hardly miss.

Penryn: C Symons, J Davie, O Moody, S Palmer (L Davis 69), B Oliver, H Roberts (D Blizzard 77), L Brabyn, R Martt, K Cooke, D Broglino (R Symonds 90+4), R Reeve.

Penryn's next match is the Cornwall Charity Cup final against Sticker tonight.
