Penryn Ath 1, Sticker 3

TWO goals in the first two minutes of this match left Penryn with a mountain to climb in this Charity Cup final at Godolphin last night.

Their start was the stuff of nightmares - a poorly defended corner resulting in the first goal, before a hotly-contested penalty led to the second hammer blow.

As they began to battle back into the match, Sticker then scored a brilliant third goal to leave Paul Murray's men reeling at the interval.

To their credit, they played some good stuff after the break and won the second half, but Sticker were full value for their win, which secured the league and cup double for them this season.

Inside the first minute, Frankie McAvoy's corner reached Martyn Duff beyond the back post and he turned it back into the six-yard box for Joel Cocking to apply a simple finish.

Seconds later Sean Johnston was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area, which looked a harsh call as his arm appeared to be by his side. Andrew Butler tucked away the resulting spot kick.

Scott Palmer then limped off after 12 minutes as Penryn's ill-fortune continued, before a deflected shot from McAvoy bounced back off a post and into the grateful arms of keeper Chris Symons. Perhaps their luck was turning.

Johnston teed up David Broglino but his left foot shot was easy for Andy Avery in the Sticker goal, before the game's outstanding moment arrived on the half hour mark.

Duff's splendid cross-field pass bounced invitingly for top scorer Jack Bowyer 25 yards from goal and he hoisted a delightful lob over the stranded Symons and into the far corner.

Midway through the second half Penryn were given a glimmer of hope when Broglino's free kick was headed home by Luke Brabyn, but Sticker could have added a fourth late on but for Symons denying Butler his second of the match.
