PENRYN Athletic and Wendron Utd were among the award winners at the annual presentation evening of the South Western Peninsula League in Plymouth on Saturday.

Penryn won two awards - the FA Respect award as voted for by referees, as well as the Carlsberg Fair Play League for fewest red and yellow cards across the three divisions.

Wendron were runners-up in the Fair Play League and also won award for the Best Ground in Division 1 West.

Held at the Crowne Plaza on Plymouth Hoe, more than 200 people attended the event, which was hosted by

master of ceremonies Bruce Taylor.

Secretary Phil Hiscox thanked the sponsors, congratulated the award winners and gave special praise to the unsung heroes at both league and club level that keep football alive in their communities.

Phil also announced that president Carl Throgmorton had agreed to take over the sponsorship of the “Respect” Awards which was the only award that was not currently funded by sponsorship.

Highlights included Peter Worden presenting Golden Boots to Jack Bowyer, Sean Finch & Glynn Hobbs. Bernard Leach (Devon FA Chairman) presented Sam Littlefair with the Top Referee award, Carl Throgmorton presented the Respect awards which had Penryn Athletic as the overall winners, Chris Wright from Macron presented vouchers to the Best Grounds – Cullompton Rangers, Axminster Town & Wendron United and to the Best Programmes – Plymouth Parkway, Newton Abbot Spurs & Wadebridge Town.

Steve Ware from Walter C Parson Funeral Directors presented the League Cup prizes including the Trophy to St Austell and finally Maurice Sweeney from Carlsberg presented the prize money positions and the Championship trophies to Tavistock, Sticker and Stoke Gabriel.
