Perranporth 2, Perranwell 1

PERRANWELL were unable to halt the Combination League leaders in a game that saw three red cards at Ponsmere Valley on Saturday.

The home side had to play the entire second half with only ten men after Gary Bell was dismissed for a 40th minute tackle, while Perranwell had two men dismissed in stoppage time at the end of the game.

There were few chances in a hard-fought first half but after Bell’s sending off, the home side showed why they are strong title contenders.

They took the lead with 25 minutes to go when veteran defender Justin Miles headed home a Josh Burton free kick at the back post.

Ten minutes later they doubled their advantage when Reece Monteith’s free kick was headed home by Burton in a re-run of the first goal.

There were five yellow cards besides the three reds as both teams played with full commitment and Perranwell set up a tense finish with an 88th minute penalty converted by Lachlan Brace.

Jack Adams was then sent off for a second bookable offence and when team mate Dave Standing remonstrated with Adams as he left the field, he was also shown a red card.

Perranwell: T Moody, J Rowberry, D Quick, D Standing, S Maycock, M Lane, D Ferris, L Brace, I Bromwell, L Brabyn, F Cross. Subs: M Rose, C Madeley, T Senior, J Adams, W Snape.
