Falmouth Town 3, St Austell 0

Falmouth Town moved up to second place in the SWPL Premier table after comfortably beating St Austell at Bickland Park on Tuesday night.

A David Broglino penalty ensured that the hosts led at half-time, before goals from Jordan Annear and Joe Cooper sealed an emphatic result for Town, who have now reached the 60-point mark for the first time since 2012.

Town exacted revenge on the Lilywhites, who beat them by the same score at Poltair Park in their Cornwall Senior Cup quarter-final in February.

Last night’s match was the fourth time the two sides had met this season, with both sides winning one of the previous three while the other ended in a draw.

In addition to St Austell’s cup victory in February, Town won 3-1 at Poltair Park their Walter C Parson Cup second round tie on October 14, before the sides played out an incredible 5-5 draw in the SWPL Premier at the same venue two weeks later.

The Ambers were due to head to Devon last night to face Cullompton Rangers, but with the weather forecast looking terrible the game was called off yesterday morning.

St Austell's game against Plymouth Argyle also suffered the same fate, and with the two sides due to meet at Bickland Park later this month, the match was instead brought forward to yesterday evening.

Falmouth: R Barnes, D Blizzard (A Williams), T Annear, J Ward, J Cooper (c), J Webber, T Nixon, D Broglino, M Buchan, J Annear (R Wearne), O Walker (L Brabyn). Unused: A Westgarth, R Martt.

Falmouth’s next match is at home to Cullompton Rangers on Saturday.
