There was a mixed bag of midweek results for the four local SWPL sides, with Premier duo Falmouth and Helston grabbing wins while Porthleven and Wendron of Division 1 West both suffered defeat.

A David Broglino penalty gave the hosts the lead at the interval, before goals from Jordan Annear and Joe Cooper sealed an emphatic result for Town, who have now reached the 60-point mark for the first time since 2012.

Town exacted revenge on the Lilywhites, who beat them by the same score at Poltair Park in their Cornwall Senior Cup quarter-final in February.

Last night’s match was the fourth time the two sides had met this season, with both sides winning one of the previous three while the other ended in a draw.

The Blues took the lead after just six minutes when Kyle Marks fired in, before doing the same nine minutes later to double his side’s advantage.

The hosts got one back early in the second half, before Charlie Young’s injury-time free-kick sealed the points for Helston.

The match kicked off what is set to be a busy week for the Blues, who are due to play both Tavistock and Witheridge at the weekend.

  • Porthleven missed the chance to go back to the top of the Division 1 West table after losing 3-0 at Ludgvan on Wednesday night.

Max Davies opened the scoring inside the first minute, before Gerens James scored twice in the second half to put the newly-promoted side back above the Fishermen and into second spot.

  • Two goals in five minutes were enough to kill off Wendron, who lost 2-0 at home to St Dennis on Wednesday night.

After an even first half it looked as if the two sides were heading to half-time all square, but two headers from Jacob and Mark Rowe respectively gave St Dennis an ultimately unassailable two-goal lead.

  • In the Combination League, Porthleven Reserves came out on top at home to St Just in a ten-goal thriller.

Gavin Perraton (2), George Molcher, Dan Greet, Chris Wormington and Oscar Fergus-Gay all scored for the Fishermen as they triumphed 6-4 at Gala Park.

It was also a good evening’s work for Penryn who ran out 5-2 winners at Goonhavern, with Russell May, Jackson Saunders, Liam Jarvis, Ryan Reeve and Elliott Jorey scoring Penryn’s goals.

Joe Wright’s goal secured a 1-0 win for Helston Reserves at home to St Ives, Chris Madeley and Ian Bromell scored for Perranwell in their 2-2 draw at Holmans while Mullion slipped to a 2-0 defeat at League Cup champions St Day.
