Falmouth Town 1, Launceston 0

Luke Brabyn’s header proved to be the difference for Falmouth Town on Tuesday night, with his header earning a narrow SWPL Premier win over Launceston at Bickland Park.

Both sides hit the woodwork in a busy first half, but Brabyn’s near-post header on the hour was enough to separate the two sides and put Town back up to second in the table.

Both teams looked to get on the front foot immediately, with Rob Wearne hitting the post inside the first minute for the hosts before Sam Davey headed Charlie Hardcastle's free-kick over the bar for Launceston a few minutes later.

It felt like a goal was not too far away as Brabyn fired wide and Olly Walker headed over either side of Dan Metherell striking the crossbar for the visitors.

Town came within a whisker of taking the lead on 32 minutes as Tom Annear hammered a free-kick against the inside of the post, with James Ward unable to convert the rebound.

Annear then teed up Wearne with another dead ball to head wide just before half-time, with Walker also managing to force a save out of goalkeeper Josh Colwill before the interval.

Launceston started the second half well as Scott Blatchford saw his effort deflect over for a corner, before Davey manouevred some space on the edge of the box and fired over.

But they paid the price for not taking either chance as Town took the lead on the hour, with Brabyn heading David Broglino's corner in at the near post.

Ward then missed a chance to immediately double Town's lead, firing over from a corner, before Jordan Annear missed the target with his chip over Colwill.

Launceston turned up the pressure as Callum Thompson fired over the bar from a good position before Sam Watts found space in the box and prepared to shoot, but Joe Cooper produced a brilliant tackle to deny him.

Town weathered the visitors' storm and looked to kill the game off as time ticked away, with Broglino's cross just evading the head of Wearne before sub Ryan Chinn's follow-up was headed clear.
