Cricket is back this weekend as the Cornwall Premier League gets underway, with Falmouth CC beginning their 2018 season with a home game against Werrington.

Falmouth Town travel to Ivybridge Town for the first of three away games inside five days, while Helston Athletic play their final game at Kellaway Park this season against champions Plymouth Parkway.

Penryn RFC will look to put their disappointment at missing out on promotion behind them and end their season on a high when they visit Withycombe.

  • Ivybridge Town v Falmouth Town (SWPL Premier)

Falmouth travel to Ivybridge on Saturday as they aim to seal a top-three finish in the SWPL Premier and eclipse their record points total in the SWPL Premier of 78 - set in 2011/12 - of which they are ten points away from doing.

Tavistock have made second place their own after winning seven games in just eight days, but a third-place finish is still very much on for Town with Bodmin expected to be their main rivals for that position.

Town have enjoyed a rare week off since beating Newquay last Saturday, but now face their final six league games of the season inside the next 11 days, with four of those in Devon...

Last time out: Falmouth Town 3-0 Newquay (April 21)

  • Helston Athletic v Plymouth Parkway (SWPL Premier)

Helston are in for a tricky afternoon this weekend when league champions Plymouth Parkway come to town.

A 5-1 defeat to St Austell on Tuesday night ended a run of three straight wins, but, similarly to Falmouth, the Blues are within four points of their own record SWPL finish of 52 - set in 2015/16 - with three games left to play after Saturday's match.

Kellaway Park will be the final SWPL ground that Parkway will visit before moving up to the Western League next season, while a point against Helston will see them break the 100-point barrier.

Last time out: St Austell 5-1 Helston Athletic (April 24)

  • Withycombe v Penryn (Tribute Cornwall/Devon)

Penryn face Withycombe in their final game of the Cornwall/Devon season with only pride left to play for after their fleeting hopes of promotion ended on Wednesday night.

A 45-12 win over Tavistock last weekend had kept Penryn’s slim hopes of promotion alive, but Saltash’s 78-0 win over Tavy in midweek means that the Ashes now have an unassailable six-point lead with one round of games remaining.

Nonetheless, the Borough will hope to end the season on a high before preparations begin for another tilt at promotion next year.

Last time out: Tavistock 12-45 Penryn (April 21)

  • Falmouth v Werrington (ECB Cornwall Premier)

Falmouth CC begin their 2018 campaign on Saturday with a home game against Werrington.

The home side will hope for better result this time around after losing the corresponding fixture last season back in August, when they were all out for 93 after chasing Werrington’s 154.

They will also have the chance to right another wrong, after they also lost last season’s opening fixture at Penzance.
