FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD Dylan Tynan won the under-18 singles title at the British Para Table Tennis Championships in Grantham last weekend.

Dylan produced a great comeback from 2-0 down to beat Tamlan Eastwood 11-6 in the decider.

He said: “It was difficult to cope with his style of play at first, but I spoke to my coach and changed my tactics and sorted my own game out.

“It means a lot to be National champion after training all these years - winning a title is really, good especially coming back from 2-0 down. I’ve played Tamlan a few times but this is the first time I’ve played him in a proper tournament and it was a tough match.”

Dylan, who has a condition which causes his muscles to stiffen, has played at Falmouth Docks for eight years, and was the youngest player to ever play for the club when he joined aged six.

Falmouth Docks’ head coach Jeremy Williams said: “It is a marvellous achievement, there are very few occasions where a local player gets national recognition and a national title so it’s a very good achievement indeed.”

On the same weekend, clubmate Nora De Cominges, 11, reached the quarter-finals of the girls under-11s event at the English schools national finals in Wolverhampton last weekend.

Nora was one of eight Cornwall junior players that played at the national finals and finished second in her group of six players, before advancing a further three knockout rounds into the quarter-finals.

Jeremy said: “It was a marvellous achievement and she was the biggest achiever in those championships of the Cornish players.

“She has been playing at the club for two years and we have high hopes for her as she goes up through the rankings.”
