FOUR Penryn players are named in the Cornwall squad to take on Hertfordshire at Bishop's Stortford RFC in their final County Championship game of the season on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Last weekend's surprise 20-19 defeat to rivals Devon means that Cornwall's hopes of reaching a sixth consecutive County Championship final are over, with this weekend's game effectively a 'dead rubber'.

Numerous changes have been made to the team as a result, with Borough duo Mitchell Vague and George Jones two of just six players to retain their places from the Devon game.

The pair are joined by clubmates Sam Hitchens and Adam Hughes, who are both named among the replacements.

Cornwall drew their opening game of this season's tournament against Surrey two weeks ago, coming back from 0-15 to draw 15-15, before last weekend's narrow defeat to Devon.

The Black & Gold have won the tournament - now known as the Bill Beaumont Cup - on five occasions, with their last triumph coming in 2016 when they won 35-13 against Cheshire in the Twickenham showpiece.
