This year’s Summer Turkey Trot race, the ninth round of the Cornwall Grand Prix Series, sponsored by Cornwall Glass, is not accepting entries on the day this year.

This popular four-mile race, the shortest of the 15 races in the Grand Prix programme, will be held on Wednesday, July 4, starting at 7.30pm from Trickys, Redruth, TR15 3TA.

Runners must enter before the deadline on Sunday, June 24. The entry fee is £12 for club runners and £14 for those who are not members of a club. Members of the Cornish clubs must enter through their club contacts.

Alan Rowling, one of the race organisers, said: “Last year we had 500 runners taking part and the organising committee felt that, for various reasons, we had reached our limit.

"Off road parking has always been a concern but we can safely accommodate this number of runners arriving by car. The course itself is very narrow over the first downhill mile and then follows busy roads all the way back to the finish.

"Five hundred runners on a short four-mile circuit puts great pressure on our timekeepers and recorders at the finish and I must say they have done a marvellous job over the past few years. Perhaps chip timing the future may help in this respect."

The Cornish road running clubs have already claimed a large proportion of the places but we felt it was important to reserve a small number of places for local runners who are not members of a club and perhaps a few runners on holiday in the area.”
