Manager Andrew Westgarth says he is not looking to add a striker to his squad, despite a long-term injury to Rob Wearne.

Wearne sustained a cruciate ligament injury in the Reserves’ 2-2 draw at St Ives in the Combination League last month and is set to miss the majority of next season.

Westgarth said: “He’s just had an operation and they said he’s got to go back in six weeks to do the other bit of it. They reckon it’s nine months recovery. You never know, he could be back before the end of the season.

"Realistically, the recovery after is just as hard isn’t it, so he’s going to be looking at 12 months so he is obviously devastated, especially after the season we’ve had and looking to build for next year.

“I’m gutted for him because I’ve been in that position myself. It’s just unbelievably bad luck.”

Despite Rob's lengthy spell on the sidelines, Westgarth insists a replacement is not a priority.

“To get a forward in would be nice but it’s not a must," he said. "We’ve still got Jordan [Annear] and Mattie Bucks [Buchan] so there’s nothing to panic about, but if the right person comes up then it would be silly not to look at them.”

Westgarth entertained the prospect of getting a replacement after the season has begun, highlighting that Wearne himself re-joined the club from St Austell two months into last season.

He said: “Players get a feel for where they stand in clubs and sometimes you always get a little bit of movement."

Some good news on the personnel front for Westgarth is that the departing trio of Marcello Jones, Olly Walker and Jack Webber are set to play the first few weeks of the new campaign before leaving.

Jones is set to depart for America, while Walker and Webber are heading to university.

He said: “We’ve not heard anything yet of when he’s [Jones] actually going but I think when he does go, we might have him for two months because they don’t go until the end of September, so I think he’s still going to do pre-season and stuff like that.

"I think that’s the same with Olly Walker and Jack Webber as well, I think they don’t go until the same sort of time so the squad should be quite good for the start of the season. So like I said there’s nothing to panic about."
