Porthleven AFC chairman Deryk Heywood has left the club to join fellow Division 1 West side Mousehole.

Heywood has stepped down from his position at Gala Parc after five years with the Club in order to take over as General Manager at Mousehole, supporting its Endorsed Academy.

Heywood left a statement on the club’s Facebook page, which read: “With immediate effect, I am stepping down as chairman at Porthleven AFC.

“With my recent appointment as General Manager of Mousehole supporting the Endorsed Academy, I feel that it presents a conflict of interests to remain in another role at another football club.

“In the interim, Simon Bew has been appointed as Acting Chairman until the AGM later this month.”

Reflecting on his decision to join Mousehole, Heywood said: “I gave the decision to leave Porthleven a great deal of consideration. But this is a great opportunity for me to return to my old Club with a completely different role as General Manager, developing the commercial model of the Club.

“I had a great run at Porthleven and made good friends along the way. I would like to thank everyone there for their support.

“I also would like to thank all the Club sponsors for their very kind donations and commercial support in my time at the Club.”

Heywood returns to Trungle Parc following a three-year spell with the club as a player 40 years ago.

He will be responsible for both developing the commercial model of the club, working closely with its Endorsed Academy, while also driving forward the increasing number of developments at a local level.
