Weston-super-Mare will be Helston Athletic’s first ever FA Youth Cup opponents after the draw for the first round was made on Friday.

The Blues will make their first ever foray into the tournament this season, and are the only club from the Duchy to be doing so.

Joint-manager Stu Giles said: “Proud of the fact that we’re going to be the only Cornish team in the draw, and obviously for myself and for everybody else it’s the first time they’ve ever played in the Youth Cup so its going to give a lot of local boys the opportunity to perhaps do something they’d never do.”

Giles and fellow joint-manager Martyn Daughtery arrived at Kellaway Park at the end of last season after joining from St Day.

“It’s a look see into the FA Youth Cup,” said Giles. “We’ve never been in before, we don’t know what to expect, we don’t know the standard of the opposition that we face, but we’ll go to Weston-super-Mare in September with our strongest possible squad and give it our best.

“If we can get a result there and hopefully we can bring the game home and play under the lights at Helston and see if we can attract decent crowds which I think we will.”

The match will take place in the week beginning September 3.
