Penzance retained the Bradleys Vinter Cup beating St Just at Camborne in one of the most remarkable finals of the 84 year history of the competition, writes Michael Weeks.

It ended St Just’s run of winning their last 14 successive finals. After being put into bat Penzance hit a mammoth, record final score of 249 for 3 in 20 overs. The previous best was 173 made by St Just four years ago.

Tommy Sturgess hit 65 and Dylan Blignaut 78 in an opening stand of 128, in just 10 overs. Greg Smith made 55 and Brad Wadlan 39 not out. In all the innings included 9 sixes and 29 fours.

Sturgess was named the Bill Bosanko Man of the Match after taking 4 for 10 as St Just replied with 107 for 9, to lose by 142 runs. Philip Nicholas top scored with 41.

Needing 172 they beat Wiltshire at Truro by seven wickets at Truro on Sunday with Jon Nance making 71 not out and Jim McKenna 42. They have a home tie with Oxfordshire on July 29.
