Falmouth 211-7 [9pts] lost to Penzance 212-8 [18pts] by two wickets

Falmouth were a whisker away from a surprise win over Premier Division leaders Penzance, losing on the final ball at the Hine Downing Oval on Saturday.

Falmouth won the toss and chose to bat but lost Kieran Rodda for a duck off just two balls.

But Grant Stone and Harry Roberts both scored well, scoring 86 off 135 balls and 44 off 81 balls respectively before both were dismissed for lbw.

Scott Kellow added one run before he was caught by Greg Smith off Dylan Blignaut, who took 4-33.

Oliver Paull pitched in with 11 before Richard Kellow added 39 runs off 25 balls, including two sixes.

Kellow fell victim to Blignaut, and so did Jamie Stephens (10) as the hosts reached 211 at the end of their 50 overs.

Penzance's reply began as you would expect from a top of the league team, with Antony Angove and Ryan Edwards racking up 83 runs before the latter was caught off Stephens' delivery - the first of his three wickets.

But Tommy Sturgess (0) and Greg Smith (1) swiftly followed after scoring one run between them, with Blignaut adding eight before he was caught.

At 117-5 things were looking nervy for Penzance, but a 40 from Brad Wadlan and 25 not out from Jonathan Ludlam eased their worries, with 22 from Charles Goldsworthy helping to creep the visitors over the line with the very last ball.
