TRURO City FC will play their home games at Torquay United's Plainmoor ground next season, the club has announced.

The club said in a statement this morning that it must vacate its current Treyew Road home by July 31, 2018 as developers require the site in order to begin the re-development of the ground.

The statement read: "TRURO City FC have received notice that Helical intend to start development of Treyew Road and require the site at the earliest opportunity to enable them to fulfil their agreement with Lidl Supermarket.

"This means we must vacate Treyew Road by July 31st 2018, which is just nine days away. Whilst we were aware that there was a possibility of being asked to vacate Treyew Road during the 2018/19 season, we did not expect this to happen with such short notice.

"Vacating Treyew Road now will secure the £2m contribution from Truro City FC to the S4C and enable the stadium to progress inline with the build programme, securing the future of the club. We fully understand that a temporary move may be unpopular for some supporters, however, we would ask you to accept that this is a case of short-term pain for a long-term gain.

"Since being made aware of the developers' intentions, we have been in discussions with both The National League and Torquay United Football Club and can confirm that we have reached an agreement to ground share with Torquay United for the 2018/19 season with the approval of The National League, commencing with our first home game at Torquay on August 4th against Billericay Town."

The club said that they will shortly be announcing details of coach travel subsidy arrangements for the 216-mile round trip to Torquay for home games, as well as information regarding admission prices and season tickets.

The club added that they will offer full refunds for anyone who has already purchased a season ticket who does not want to take up the subsidised travel offer.

Truro City are aiming to move into the proposed Stadium for Cornwall upon the project's completion, however the business case for the stadium has not yet been submitted to the government so that it can decide whether to give £3million to the project.

Despite Cornwall Council agreeing in March to provide £3m to the stadium, the bid to secure the remaining £3m from the government is no further forward.

Under the plans the Stadium for Cornwall at a site near Threemilestone would provide a permanent home for the Cornish Pirates rugby union team along with Truro City.

The £14.3m project would also provide facilities for Truro and Penwith College and a fitness centre which would be run by GLL. The college, Pirates and Truro City have each committed £2m while GLL will throw in £300,000.
