Mylor Bridge Bowling Club’s new Captain Elaine Beckton is celebrating after winning the divisional final of the Captain’s Shield Trophy.

Elaine, who is only in her third season of bowling, bravely took on the role not only as Ladies’ Captain but also Club Captain of Mylor Bridge Bowling Club.

The Captain’s Shield is a knockout lawn bowls competition consisting of four players which must include the Ladies’ Captain, Vice Captain and two other committee members. The Captain must act as the skip.

Having already won two rounds of the competition, Elaine lead her team of Frances Walther (selector), Cordelia Folland (vice captain) and Margaret Weatherhead (treasurer) to a resounding victory in the final round against a very strong team from Chacewater Bowling Club.

The Mylor team will now go forward to play the County final at St Austell on September 11.

Mylor also reached the final of the Top Team competition against Chacewater Bowling Club, with Chacewater eventually winning 3-2 in this five-rink competition.
