St Austell 4, Falmouth Town 1

Falmouth Town slumped to a disappointing defeat at Poltair Park in their first game of the SWPL Premier season on Saturday.

Chris Reski and Liam Eddy put the hosts 2-0 up, with Jordan Annear replying for Town but Eddy struck again before Neil Slateford added a fourth.

The hosts went ahead on eight minutes with Eddy holding off James Ward on the right hand side before crossing to Reski who converted from close range.

Slateford came very close to making it 2-0 on 17 minutes but for a timely intervention from a Falmouth leg to block the strike.

Town should have levelled when an attack down the right flank reached Annear a few yards out, but last season's 43-goal top-scorer cleared the crossbar.

The elusive equaliser almost came just before half-time with Ward's header from Tim Nixon's corner kick looking like it may have scrambled over the line, but to Town's dismay the referee and linesman both said it hadn't.

Town will have rued that decision when Liam Eddy put the home side two goals up in the 50th minute with a close-range finish.

But Town hit back almost immediately as Annear held off two defenders in the box before slotting past St Austell's Jason Chapman and into the bottom corner.

Falmouth had their tails up and began to put heavy pressure on their hosts from a series of corners and free-kicks.

But St Austell restored their two-goal lead on 77 minutes when Reski slipped in Eddy to slot past the onrushing Ryan Barnes.

Slateford then scored the goal his performance deserved eight minutes from time, striking one in off the near post to cap off an excellent afternoon for the Lilywhites.
