FALMOUTH Town produced a strong second-half display to see off Newquay in their first home SWPL Premier game of the season on Wednesday night.

Martyn Duff gave Town a half-time lead with his first goal for the club, before Luke Brabyn and Matt Buchan added to the tally after the break to give Town their first points of the season.

A quiet opening 20 minutes was briefly brought to life with Jordan Annear curling just wide after Town capitalised on some sloppiness in possession from the visitors.

Annear’s opposite number Jack Bray-Evans replied with an effort of his own, testing Barnes from the edge of the area after escaping a cluster of yellow shirts.

The visitors should then have scored the opener as they poured forward with George Marris receiving the ball in acres of space on the right, but his shot was clawed away by Ryan Barnes.

But it was Town who found themselves ahead on 35 minutes with a goal made by Buchan, who beat one defender at the byline before cutting back to Duff, who curled into the corner from the penalty spot.

A slow start to the second half livened up when Jose Perez brought a save out of Barnes before Bray-Evans curled narrowly wide.

But Town doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Tim Nixon crossed to Brabyn – who had only just come off the bench - who worked his way past a couple of defenders before squeezing the ball past Roberts at the near post.

Two became three soon after as Town made sure of the points with Buchan heading in at the near post from David Broglino's corner.

They could have added a couple more to their tally with James Ward, Olly Walker and Jack Bowyer all having good chances in the final few minutes, but it wasn’t going to make any difference to the end result.
