Helston Athletic manager Steve Massey insisted that the score did not reflect the game after his side went down 3-0 against a strong Plymouth Argyle team on Saturday.

The Blues held their own against an Argyle side that contained first-team professionals Tafari Moore, Peter Grant, Lionel Ainsworth, Calum Dyson and Gregg Wylde, as well as a number of young first-year pros.

All three goals came from the professional contingent with Calum Dyson putting the Pilgrims ahead on 15 minutes when he headed over Helston goalkeeper Barrie Wyatt.

Young striker Alex Fletcher doubled the home side's lead on the half-hour mark when he charged down Wyatt's attempted clearance and slotted into the unguarded net.

Argyle found things more difficult after the break with Helston applying some pressure of their own, with Phil Cattran and Scott Beattie both hitting the bar for the Blues while substitute Louis Roberts had an effort cleared off the line.

But former Rangers winger Gregg Wylde rounded off the scoring midway through the second half when he seized on a stray pass and drew Wyatt before slotting underneath the Helston man.

Helston: B Wyatt, K Davies, G Roberts (L Roberts), R Beattie, H Howlett, H Jewell, J Cooper (A Wharton), L Tripconey (L Tonkin), S Beattie, P Cattran, K Cornish.

Helston host St Austell in the SWPL Premier on Wednesday night (kick-off 7.30pm).
