Two referees red carded in annual clash

The West Cornwall Referees' Society found themselves up against it in their annual clash with the East Cornwall Referees' Society when they were beaten 7-1 in a Dave Gardner round robin charity match.

The East contained some qualified referees who are still playing senior football including Falmouth Town's Brinton Nute who helped himself to five of the goals. The West's marksman was Len Stevens.

However, the major talking point among the men who each week guard the integrity of the laws of the game was the actualy lack of discipline by the men in black who were taking part in the match. Referee Rigas Gatzianidis was called upon to send off two players.

Hayle VB continued their winning run on Sunday with a 4-2 win at Downderry Rovers. Ace marksman Mark Rapsey grabbed two goals with rapier-like strikes with the other two goals coming from Dave Cooper and Simon Bendall.

In the only other league match St Agnes B proved too strong for their A side and ran out narrow 2-1 winners at Eny Park.

On Sunday at Wadebridge the East Cornwall Referees defeated the Cornwall Supervets 2-0.
