ALMOST 100 people attended a star-studded snooker exhibition evening held at Bell's Court Snooker Club in Falmouth on Saturday night.

The evening, organised by club owner Paul Williams and sponsored by Truro-based company Laurence Associates, saw former world ranked number five Stephen Lee and Andy Hicks, a former world number 17, pair up and play five frames in front of snooker amateurs, with Stephen winning by four frames to one.

It was the first time that such an event had taken place at Bell's Court and this was due to the "wonderful support and money put in by the sponsors, Laurence Associates", said Paul Williams.

During the evening a further six snooker games were played by the snooker legends and club members in what Paul described "as a fantastic, social occasion."

Earlier on Saturday afternoon Stephen Lee played matches with 18 juniors, teaching and coaching them. Paul Williams praised his "patient attitude" and said that all the junior players enjoyed their afternoon with the legendary star.

The event helped raise £500, of which £140 will be going to the Paul Hunter Foundation.

The pick of the matches during the afternoon session saw club captain Chris Mason hit a 43-break against Stephen Lee but still end up on the losing side.

Eight-year-old Max Pattle also walked away with a trophy for the best performance of the day as he made life difficult for the snooker ace.

"We are looking forward to an exciting future at Bell's Court and we have to thank our sponsors, Laurence Associates, for allowing great nights like this to take place", said Paul.

Bell's Court are now looking forward to further exhibition evenings with the possibility of Jimmy "Whirlwind" White being the next snooker legend to appear at the club.
