FALMOUTH Bowling Club's A team welcomed Chacewater A on Tuesday evening in excellent conditions.

Barry Tippett's rink was in superb form for the visitors against the A's David Winnan's rink by leading 14-3 at the tea interval. The Chacewater rink were very accurate on the fast surface and appeared to be enjoying themselves with some spectacular bowling. Playing very confidently, they went on to a big 27-10 win.

The A's Ron Medlyn's rink, after a poor start, pulled back to 8-8 at the tea interval. After tea Colin Binny's Chacewater rink were well served by their lead Nigel Ashwin who continually peppered the jack, putting the Falmouth rink under pressure.

The As were not at their best and suffered through not being able to control their weight and paid the price as their opponents ran away with the second half of the game to win 24-10.

The A's Colin Whitfeld's rink were doing well up to the tea interval to lead 13-8 over Chacewater's Paul Williamson's rink. Chacewater won the 12th end and kept the jack, getting their lead to bowl short jacks. This move completely threw the Falmouth rink and they could only score two more shots for the entire game as Chacewater won 30-16 to collect all five points.

Falmouth As visited Redruth on Thursday with Colin Whitfeld's rink having a close battle with Redruth's Barry Kessell's rink as at tea Redruth led 11-9. After tea the A's rink picked up a 1-2-6 to lead 18-12 and they then played confidently to lead 22-14, only then to drop six shots to go into the last end only two shots up. They held on and collected three on the last end to win 25-20.

The As had to reshuffle their team as David Winnan was absent and unavailable so Tony Nancholas had to switch to skip this rink against Redruth's Robin Walter's rink.

The A's were soon in deep trouble, being outbowled, as Redruth raced to a 10-0 lead after five ends.

At tea, Redruth led 14-4 and continued their good form afterwards to record a 24-9 win.

The A's Ron Medlyn's rink were soon in for a shock as Redruth's Richard Brown's rink scored five on the first end and soon led 11-0 after six ends.

Redruth looked unstoppable as Falmouth struggled to find any form, but they did prevent the As scoring with some outrageous wicks to steal the shot.

Tristan Beale was the only bright star in the Falmouth rink and tried very hard, but it was not enough as Redruth went on to win 27-12. So Falmouth A's came to the end of a disastrous week only scoring one point from both matches.

Falmouth B welcomed Redruth B on Tuesday and enjoyed better form than of late.

The B's Paul Williams' rink was 16-4 up at tea over Derek Lawrence's Redruth rink and they maintained the pressure in the second half to record an excellent 23-15 win.

The B's John Oldcroft's rink were 11-6 up at tea and playing quite confidently with Brian Bishop back from sickness playing at number three.

Redruth's Bob Howarth's rink could not get to grips with the fast surface and the B rink ran away to an easy 28-11 win.

The B's Paul Bobin's rink were trailing 11-5 to Redruth's Ed Perkins' rink, but after tea things looked better as the B's rink managed to get their nose in front by the 18th end to lead 16-15. Disaster then hit them in the last three ends as Redruth ran out with a 4-2-3 to win 24-16.

However, Falmouth B's had done enough to win four points, Redruth one point.

Falmouth B visited Chacewater A with some trepidation after Chacewater A's big win over Falmouth A on Tuesday.

They were not disappointed as the B's Paul Williams' rink were taken to the cleaners by some immaculate bowling from Chacewater A's Glyn Mitchell's rink as they amounted a fantastic score to win 48-2. This is probably a record loss for the Bs who were left shell shocked.

The Bs John Oldcroft's rink suffered a similar fate and they never scored a point until the 18th end against Chacewater A's Paul Williamson's rink who ran out winners 33-3.

The B's Arthur Searle's rink, skipping in the place of the absent Paul Bobin, did a great job to steer his team to an 11-11 draw after 13 ends. After 19 ends the Bs were only one shot behind Mike Tippett's rink at 15-16. Unfortunately they were to lose the last two ends and lose the game 18-15, a really good showing against such talented players.

Chacewater A took all five points as the Bs licked their wounds.

Falmouth C only had one game against Redruth C at Falmouth.

Redruth C were unbeaten up to Wednesday and are near the top of the league. The C's Bill Adams rink were being outbowled at the front end against Redruth's Malcolm Wainwright's rink, and at tea were 12-4 in arrears. Things did not improve after tea as the whole rink found themselves being outbowled by Redruth C who went on to win 26-9.

Falmouth C's Alan Winn's rink were struggling to find any form against Redruth C's Reg Terrill, a very experienced bowler and with Trevor John at number three, this duo were always in control of this game.

Things looked pretty bleak for the C's as after 18 ends were losing 22-10 but the next two ends brought reward with a 1-5 to leave Redruth C's winners 23-16. This five proved crucial in the overall score and was to prove a winner.

Club president Harry Stephens, drawn on his favourite rink one, was against John Hopson's Redruth C rink. With the Falmouth rink of Doug Moyle, Mike Ogden number two and Arthur Searle number three, all bowled really well and by tea had pulled out a 22-4 lead. As pressure increased on the other rinks, Harry held his team together to continue gathering points and eventually had a great win 37-8.

When the scores were added together, Falmouth C had scored 62, Redruth C 57, so Falmouth C won the match 3-2 to end an exciting and memorable game.
