AN understrength Perranarworthal continue to find things difficult in County Division One. Their latest reverse came at Hayle on Saturday when they went down by 42 runs. With only one win to date they are just seven points ahead of Penzance at the foot of the table.

Wayne Jenkin (52) and Paul Lello (50) added 81 for the fourth wicket after Kevin Jenkin had made 30. This after Carl Murphy had got rid of both openers for 12. Murphy took two for 34 and Tom Williams two for 50.

Perran never really threatened. Jamie Bridger made 42, Tom Williams 32 and Malcolm Thomas 30. Jason Weeks picked up three for seven at the end and Wayne Jenkin three for 29 after Paul Lello opened with two for 14 from 10 overs.

Falmouth seconds provided one of the stories of the day on Saturday following their outstanding win at title challengers Leedstown seconds in division two.

A fantastic batting effort saw Falmouth make 312 for 3. Falmouth didn't get off to a great start after being put in, losing Mark Johnson without scoring. Matt Durrant made 32 that included a six and five fours. Then Justin Inglis and Richard Kellow put on 220 for the third wicket. Inglis departed for 73 but Kellow went on to make a superb 183 not out off 131 balls hitting nine sixes and 21 fours.

Leedstown put up a spirited response with Lee Bennett making 101. Greg Stephens and George Popperwell shared six of the wickets to fall as the home side were bowled out in the 41st over for 231.

Falmouth have opened up a 17 point lead over Leedstown at the top of the table but are without a game on Saturday following St Ives withdrawal.

St Gluvias's game at Perranporth was interestingly poised when fog caused an abandonment shortly before 8pm. Chad Ruddy made 114 for the home side before retiring hurt. He shared a 143 run third wicket stand with Beau Pearson who made 83 after the first two wickets had gone down for 24. Matthew Julian made 60 in the St Gluvias reply and Gordon Scott was 45 not out when the weather intervened with 15 overs still remaining.

In division four Constantine gained two points on Troon seconds to take the lead outright. Stithians were dismissed for 89 with Roger Strick top scoring with 18 not out. Darren Griffiths took four for 26 and Alan Dengler four for 13. Constantine were steered home by Scott Thompson who made an unbeaten 58.

Constantine host St Levan on Saturday while Stithians make the trip to Chacewater.

David Angell made 100 not out and shared an unbroken stand of 88 for the sixth wicket with Lee Coston as Perranarworthal seconds totalled 246 for 5 against Truro thirds at Tredrea.

Angell hit four sixes and 12 fours as he reached exactly three figures. Coston made 31 not out as did opener Jim Spiers. Truro were 94 for 6 at one stage but fought back to make 202 for 9 through Darren Willcocks, Kyle Van Rooyen and Jan Louw. Coston and Angell completed fine games by taking three wickets apiece.

In division five Falmouth thirds had a narrow 11 run win at St Buryan to maintain a clear lead at the top of the table. Daniel Stephens with 31 and Jacob Stephens with 25 were chiefly responsible for their total of 101 after the first five wickets had fallen for 29. Stephens then took four for 8 after Thomas Hoban had taken three for 25 to clinch victory.

Rosudgeon seconds visit Channel Four on Saturday.

St Gluvias seconds recorded a 49 run home win over Mt Ambrose and are fifth in the table. Richard Bannister made 89 and Robert Lilley 61. Lilley followed up with four for 41.

St Gluvias are at second placed Praze this weekend.

Stithians seconds had a narrow two-run win at Falmouth fourths despite a valiant unbeaten 63 from Glen Page. Callum Davidson made 30 after taking five for 29 in the Stithians innings.

Stithians 172 (M Buckingham 43, S Hamilton 32, M Bowley 21; C Davidson 5-29, G Page 2-29), Falmouth 170-9 (G Page 63no, C Davidson 30, D Grosvenor 4-35, N Stephens 2-16, T Calvert 2-55). Stithians (18 points) beat Falmouth (nine) by 2 runs.

There was an outstanding innings in division seven from young Jacob Johnson who made 184 for Constantine seconds at home to St Ives seconds. He hit four sixes and 28 fours. Constantine went on to win by a massive 233 runs.

Mawnan stay in second spot after their eight wicket home win over Botallack seconds. Barry Mercer and Barry Pitman making useful contributions with the bat.

Christian Good and Mercer had both taken three wickets earlier.

Robert Risbridger took seven for 11 in Perranarworthal thirds' eight wicket home win over Redruth fourths.

n Perranarworthal had a better day on Sunday after they progressed through to the npower National Village Cornwall Group Final where they will play Roche at Tredrea on Sunday, June 15.

Both Perran and Beacon put out weakened sides.

Jim Spiers made 91 and Matthew Angove 36 as Perran made 208 for 5. Evergreen Walter Brotherton took four for 17 and skipper Adrian Moore three for 8 as Beacon were dismissed for 74.
