Mawnan Bowling Club men's team only had one game in the league during the week, which was away to Redruth, writes Tony Stevenson.

Jack Gretton's rink made a good start leading 7-14 after 12 ends, but Redruth, skipped by T. Vinnicombe, came back to level the score at 15-all with three ends to go. Mawnan scored one to go into the lead by a shot, but Redruth scored a two on the next end to lead by a shot going into the last end. A three on the last end by Mawnan won them the rink in this very tight match.

John Wright's rink were slow to start, losing 5-1 after five ends, but a 1,1,2 brought them level 5-5 after eight ends. The match was very close at 14-14 with one end to go. Mawnan steadied the ship with a one on the last end to win the rink 14-15.

Phil Dunstone's rink held the lead four times in the first eight ends but a 4,1 by Redruth gave them 11-7 at the tea break. Mawnan came back firing on all cylinders after tea with a 1,2,2,3,1,1 to lead 12-17 after 17 ends. When the smoke cleared Mawnan won the rink 15-19 with a 1,1 on the last two ends. Having won all three rinks Mawnan had all five points, making the final score Redruth 46, Mawnan 53.

Mawnan ladies visitedChacewater for a Date Cup fixture, always a very hard place to get a result. Pat Paget's rink were off to a great start taking the first six ends to lead 0-7 and kept the lead until the end, but only winning by one point 14-15.

Judy Ramsay''s rink were slow to start, going down 7-0 after only four ends, but Mawnan pulled themselves together with a 1,1,4,3,2,2,1,2 to lead 7 -16 after 12 ends. Chacewater came back but were unable to make up the difference losing the rink 15-19.

An excellent result for Mawnan winning away to Chacewater B 29-34.

On Tuesday Chacewater B came to Mawnan in the Rippon Cup. Mawnan were skipped by Pam Dearnley and after nine ends were level at 7-7, but Chacewater skipped by C Shefford pulled away in the second half of the match to win 10-20.

On Friday Mawnan were at home to Truro in the Strollers competition. Richard Ragg's rink kept pace with Truro up until end 11 when the score was 9-10, but Truro, skipped by R Cunningham, took the next six ends to take an unassailable lead winning the rink 10-21.

Alf Waddingham's rink took the lead from the first end and ran out easy winners by 26-9 and although Alf Morton's rink were slow to start, losing 3-9 after eight ends, Mawnan crept back gradually to take the lead for the first time after 17 ends 16-15. A two on the last end gave Mawnan the rink 18-15 and the match 54-45.
