Mawnan's first home match in seven games took place on Monday evening in glorious wall to wall sunshine against Redruth C, writes Tony Stevenson.

Phil Dunstone's rink made a positive start leading 4-0 after only three ends, but Redruth, skipped by B Nankivell pulled back to 4-4 over the next two ends. Mawnan came back with a 4, 1, 1 to take the lead again 10-4, but Redruth responded with a 2, 1, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2, to retake the lead 10-17. Mawnan tried to come back taking four of the last six ends, but Redruth hung on to win the rink 17-21.

Jack Gretton's rink started in a positive manner, leading 18-3 after only eight ends and maintained the pressure to win the rink 28-15.

Keith Penrose's rink lost three shots on the first end, which seemed to be a wake-up call, as they were leading 4-3 by the fourth end. Redruth scored a three on the eighth end which gave them the lead 6-7 and this very close game finally came to the 20th end with the score even 17-17. With one end to play Mawnan took a one to win the rink 18-17.

Mawnan won the match 63-53 giving the home side four points.

On the same day the ladies were away to Trenance in the Rippon Cup. Skipped by Judy Ramsay, Mawnan soon fell behind, losing 12-2 after nine ends, but Judy's determined team scored a 4, 1, 1, 2, 3, to put them in the lead 12-13. Trenance, skipped by J. Maunder, scored a three on the next end to regain the lead and went on to win the match 21-14.

The following day the ladies were at home to Penryn, again in the Rippon Cup. Penryn, skipped by C. Pellow shot off to a good start leading 0-7 after only three ends. Mawnan, skipped by Elaine Compson, replied with a 1, 1, 2, 4, to go into the lead 8-7, but Mylor regained the lead on the next end and held it until the 18th end when the score was 15-20. Lead by an irrepressible Elaine, Mawnan took a five on the next end to level the score and then went on to win the match 25-20, a remarkable recovery.

On Wednesday Mawnan were away to Chacewater D and unlike the previous Wednesday the weather was warm and sunny. Phil Dunstone's rink took three ends to find the green, then went into overdrive leading 2-11 after seven ends. At the tea break Mawnan were 4-16 up and came back to win the rink 11-29.

Malcolm Dearnley's rink came out from the off and were 0-10 after four ends. Chacewater, skipped by C Jackson tried to come back but could only manage 5-10 after eight ends Mawnan went on to pile on the points and won the rink 9-30.

Jack Gretton's rink made a slow start and at tea were 8-7 down, but fully refreshed came back to go into a 8-20 lead, a lead they maintained, winning the rink 14-22.

The final score was Chacewater D 33, Mawnan 81, a comprehensive win, giving Mawnan all five points.
