The Bill Rowe Memorial Trophy saw some amazing scoring at Budock Vean Golf Club on Sunday, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Edward Benney led the way with a superb net 60. Runner-up was Bill Hannaford with a splendid net 61 whose gross of 81 was lower than his age! Third was Nick Barrington who carded a fine net 63 which is usually good enough to win. Competition secretary David Gudzij returned the best gross of the day 77. Happiest man in the bar was Paul Tripp who had the solitary two of the day to scoop the jackpot.

Following their rounds the players were treated to a most enjoyable buffet kindly supplied by W C Rowe (Bakers and Confectioners) whom Bill Rowe founded. The club are most grateful to Alan Pearce and his team at Rowe's for maintaining the tradition.

The ladies competed for the Champion of Champions on Wednesday. Nalda Grimmer just pipped Pat Kirkham on the countback for the prestigious prize, both players carding net 74s. Third was Mae Brown with a net 75.

The extra Stableford result was: 1, Marlene Williams, 38pts; 2, Tricia Blatter, 36pts; 3, Sue Parsons 35pts.

The Captain's Charity Day on Sunday, August 10, is continuing to attract numerous sponsors.
