AFTER a run of just one defeat in ten games, St Just have moved into fourth place in the Kernow Stone St Piran League premier division after defeating Perranwell 2-0, writes Leon Prynn

All the damage was done in the first half at Lafrowda Park with both goals coming in a six-minute spell right on half-time.

Pendeen Rovers and Porthleven couldn’t be separated and finished all square at 2-2 after Willem Lowdon and Fred Williams scored for Port.

Penryn Athletic saw off a challenge from Mullion Reserves to edge home 2-1 after the sides were level at the break and a brace of goals from Ryan Reeve was enough to give Wendron United Reserves a 2-1 win away to St Agnes.

In division one Hayle Reserves suffered a setback when they were thumped 4-1 at home to Troon with Jordan Rimmington scoring their goal, but St Agnes Reserves enjoyed a great result by winning 3-2 away to Ludgvan to haul themselves out of the one relegation spot.

Mawnan faced a tough challenge against West Cornwall at Falmouth School’s 3G pitch and trailed 1-0 at half-time to a superb 30-yard free kick by Robertas Sumnauskas, but a goal within a minute of the restart by Peter Cortis levelled the scores and a fine individual goal by Ben Stevens earned The Greens all three points.

St Day Reserves put up stiff resistance against St Ives Town, but came up just short as Town won 2-1 with goals from Anthony Cornish and Joe Day.

The race for the championship title and promotion from division two is now virtually a three-horse race with New Inn Titans looking the most likely winners.

It didn’t look like that at one stage in their match at Falmouth United where they trailed 3-1, but in a barnstorming finish they hit four goals to win 5-3 width the goals coming from Connor Arthur (2), Nico Penfold, Barry Penfold and Robert Penfold.

Penzance’s 4-1 defeat at home to Illogan RBL Reserves more or less ended their promotion hopes after Matt Roberts, Ashley Smeeth, Tom Hogarth and Dominic Batchelor had put the game out of their reach. Kai Baxter scored for the Magpies.

One of the biggest about turns came in Mawnan Reserves 5-2 defeat at Constantine after they led 2-0 at the break with goals from Harry Rogers and Jack Froud. The game was turned on its head in the second period as the home side hit five unanswered goals with Ethan Jory running riot and scoring four goals. Lewis Fisher had the other goal.

Redruth United Reserves remain in the promotion hunt after they brushed aside St Buryan with a 5-1 victory, but St Day III were no match for Newlyn Non-Athletico and went down to a heavy 6-1 defeat.

Two goals from Jack Blakeston and one from Zach Maunder helped Falmouth DC to a 3-2 win in division three at St Erme. Freddie Murley and an own goal were Saints’ goalscorers.

A hat-trick from Tristan Hawkings, his fifth of the season, paved the way for Lizard Argyle’s 3-2 win at St Ives Mariners. Stuart Lugg and Liam Taylor scored for Mariners.

Wendron United IV shared the spoils with St Keverne after they drew 1-1, with Charlie Rideout scoring for Saints.

All the games in division four were postponed.
