FALMOUTH TOWN 7

HOLSWORTHY 0

Falmouth romped to their biggest win of the season at home to bottom of the table Holsworthy in one of the most one sided games seen at Bickland Park for some time.

After just four minutes Liam Eddy cut in towards goal and hit a shot, which was parried by goalkeeper Chris Warring and as the ball rolled towards the goal, full-back Lee Morgan only succeeded in slicing his attempted clearance into his own net.

Five minutes later Ryan Fice had a shot blocked by central defender Gary Clarke and the ball fell to Eddy, but this time his shot was saved by Warring.

Falmouth doubled their lead after 14 minutes when Nigel Thwaites headed down Matt Drummond’s right wing cross into the path of Fice and he hammered the ball in from six yards.

A few minutes later Town keeper Jason Chapman raced out of his goal to kick the ball away before Scott Wilson could get to it and in another rare Holsworthy attack Chapman turned Wilson’s snap shot around the post for a corner.

Town went 3-0 ahead five minutes before the break, when Fice’s shot was saved by Warring’s outstretched foot but rolled to Eddy who shot home from eight yards. A minute later Warring made another good save at the expense of a corner which eventually fell to Thwaites, but he saw his long range shot well saved by the keeper amid a packed penalty area.

Josh Sims came on at the start of the second half to replace the injured Drummond and he was straight into the action, forcing Warring into another good save as he pushed the ball around the post. From the resultant corner, Town were awarded a penalty following a foul on Thwaites. Tom Smith took the spot-kick, but Warring dived full length to his left to make a great save.

Falmouth increased their lead on the hour following some more good approach work from man-of-the-match Eddy. He beat two men on the right and slipped the ball inside to Thwaites who prodded the ball home from close range.

Town had enough opportunities to have reached double figures, but a combination of good goalkeeping and an effective off-side trap meant that they had to wait until eight minutes from time before scoring the fifth goal. Fice turned provider this time as he played a perfect pass into Eddy and he hit the back of the net from 10 yards out. Falmouth then took off Richard Kellow and Thwaites and replaced them with Justin Crowley and Ben Stidwell, who was making his 50th appearance for the club.

After 86 minutes, Fice ran onto Sims’ pass and left the defence in his wake before slotting home his 18th goal of the season. Holsworthy’s afternoon’s misery was completed two minutes from the end when Sims hit a low hard ball in from the left only for the visitors’ captain, Lee Rundle, to divert the ball into his own net to bring Town’s tally to seven.

ST BLAZEY 3 FALMOUTH TOWN 1 Falmouth Town fell to their third successive defeat when they travelled to Blaise Park last Wednesday.

St Blazey showed more running and conviction than Town in the first half and Jason Chapman was forced into making several superb saves as Town’s defence, minus the experienced Sean Flynn, were forced on to the back foot time and time again.

The home side took the lead after 30 minutes when Chris Reski fired home and 60 seconds later Town’s task became even harder as Tom Barwell was shown a red card for bringing down a Blazey player as he ran towards the box.

The second half started disastrously for Falmouth as Zalick thumped home a great shot from close in, following a long cross in from the left flank.

After 68 minutes, Jay Isbell then planted a firm header into the back of the net to put Blazey 3-0 up.

After 83 minutes Falmouth got a late reward for their efforts when Justin Crowley hammered home from 12 yards for his first goal for Town.
