Falmouth Town made it three wins from three in CSWPL premier division on Saturday as they thumped six goals past Elburton Villa in a blistering 20-minute first half spell.

The result was their highest ever away victory in the South West Peninsula League.

Elburton had a couple of free kicks in the first five minutes, but both of them resulted in Dominic Burn hitting his efforts over the bar from just outside the penalty area.

Falmouth forced a corner after ten minutes which Karl Turner sent high over to the far post where Ryan Bushby headed the ball down to Liam Eddy, but the striker’s close range shot was well saved by Villa keeper Chris Wearing.

Three minutes later Town were awarded a penalty after Eddy was tripped by Burn. Mark Vercesi took the spot kick, but Wearing threw himself to the left to make a good save.

Falmouth were playing with the wind behind their backs and Chapman launched a long high punt up field, which Matt Drummond did well to nod down into the path of the busy Dan Green, who tried a speculative shot from 20 yards that Wearing tipped over.

Town finally took the lead after 23 minutes when former Falmouth player Jamie Morrison-Hill brought down Karl Turner in the area and the referee awarded Town a second penalty.

This time Vercesi made no mistake sending the keeper the wrong way as he slammed the ball home. Elburton hit back with a good move involving Morrison-Hill and Mike Lucas who played the ball into Paul Baker, but he hit his shot at Chapman, who saved easily.

Falmouth doubled their lead after 27 minutes when Richard Kellow got the ball out on the left flank and sent in a long dipping cross, which saw Vercesi dived to head home past a static Wearing from 10 yards.

Two minutes later Dan Green increased the lead to three nil when he ran on to a through ball from Drummond and rifled the ball home from 12 yards.

Town went four-nil up after 34 minutes when Dan Green and Mark Holland combined well on the right before getting the ball back into the middle where Drummond beat Ryan Williams to the ball and stabbed it home from six yards.

Elburton’s best movement of the match came a minute later when their most dangerous looking player, Lewis Edwards, cut into the Town penalty area and leaving two defenders in his wake he cracked home a fine shot past Chapman into the far corner of the net.

Three minutes later Town scored again as Eddy slipped his marker and crashed the ball past Wearing and into the back of the net.

Play switched briefly to the other end where Morrison-Hill played a free-kick into the box only to see Williams head over the bar when well placed.

Falmouth got their sixth and final goal after 42 minutes. Eddy hit a fine shot on the turn that Dave Asbury deflected for a corner and from the resultant kick Drummond headed home from close range to bring Town’s goal tally to 17 in their last three games.

Elburton made a couple of substitutions at the start of the second half and settled for damage limitation and Town never got going.

Edwards had a few good runs for the home side, but it was never enough to make the breakthrough they needed and Town’s attack tended to be snuffed out by a packed defence and some wayward passing.
