Falmouth firsts travelled to Yeovil for a mid-table clash that from the outset was a hard fought contest.

The game pace was furious with end to end hockey and some fine passing from both teams. Falmouth faced a number of penalty corners, but Yeovil were met with a solid defence and fine saves from stand in keeper Grace Rudlin kept the score even at half time. After the break Falmouth came out with a renewed vigour and some swift interplay between Clare Hudson, Vic Rushton and Amy Tatlow resulted in a well taken angled goal. Falmouth had a spell of good play and seemed to be in control until a contentious decision saw Danny Burnford yellow carded and sent off and a penalty corner awarded to the opposition. Yeovil converted the corner and Falmouth were left bemused and reeling from the initial decision. Falmouth managed to hold their shape and moved the ball swiftly into the Yeovil 25-yard area. Rushton, Kat Barbery-Redd and Hudson worked the ball around the defence and a fine cross from Kat found Hudson unmarked in the circle. She skillfully beat the keeper on the reverse to restore the lead and Falmouth hung on to the win, aided by several fine saves from player of the match Rudlin.

On Saturday Falmouth entertain Newent at Penair at 12.00pm, while on Sunday in their second league match of the weekend they host Chippenham at 11.00am.

Falmouth III 0 Plymouth University II 3 Some more new faces joined the Falmouth squad this week to face Plymouth University 2nd XI. Falmouth started well, with most of the possession until a break from the University forwards proved too fast for the Falmouth defence.

The rest of the half went mostly with the University side but with Falmouth absorbing the pressure well. A rocket short corner strike secured the Plymouth teams second, and another break through the midfield allowed a University forward to slip the ball past the Falmouth keeper for their third.

A restructured and re-inspired Falmouth side came out after the break and played a much more composed and attacking style of hockey. The Plymouth team rarely made it into their attacking area, and when they did June Moore, the Falmouth keeper, kept them at bay with some fantastic saves, dominating the D and denting the confidence of the Plymouth attack.

The Falmouth attack worked hard, with 'Player of the Match' newcomer Mollie Leverton working hard in midfield to set the forwards moving with the ball. The momentum of the second half was definitely with Falmouth but unfortunately it was never converted into a goal, despite a well worked passing move through the midfield to forward Emily Gusterson being sent narrowly wide of the post. The 0-0 scoreline in the second half was well deserved by the home team, showing definite improvement in both individual and the team performance which can be built on for the rest of the season.
